Day 1 - Phnom Penh to Prey Sla
Crossing the Mekong
The Mekong is a huge river. There are are a couple of bridges that do cross the river but it is often easier to use a ferry.
The river is busy with small local fishing boats and huge barges carrying sand. The green barge in the picture is going upstream with no load. But the last picture shows a similar barge nearly underwater from its full load of sand.
Vihear Sour Pagoda
This one of the most significant pagodas in Cambodia. Historically there was an ancient temple on thisIt has special significance to the Royal Family and many people from across the country go here to be blessed. It is especially important for people with illness or injuries.
It is a lovely peaceful place with beautiful temples and spacious grounds. When I was there a Buddhist Ceremony involving music and prayer was occurring. That made the trip even more special.
A stupa
This ancient stupa is right alongside national road 8. It is obviously very old but I have been unable to find out anything about it. It is also obviously being maintained and used as a site for worship
Will it rain?
The weather got extremely threatening with thunder and lightening and dark ominous crowds. I arrived at a coffee shop just as the rains started and spent sometime there waiting for it to ease.
How hot is it?
I bought a new fancy ride computer. It shows the temperature on the ride.
