Kratie

Kratie is a very quiet provincial town. It is very tidy and has lots of places to stay and eat. But places close very early and there is no real nightlife.

Most people come here to see the Irrawaddy dolphins which are endangered.

For dinner we had two traditional Khmer meals.

  • Fish amok
  • Tom Yum Soup with prawns

Everyone needs to try these traditional dishes when in Cambodia. We did have a New Zealand Suvignon Blanc to was it down

This is a very impressive temple right in the centre of Kratie on the waterfront. Very peaceful.

Sunset

Sunsets over the Mekong are a well known attraction in Kratie. They are indeed special

Phnom Sambok Pagoda

This is a special temple just north of Kratie town. I took so many photos that it needed its own page

Irrawaddy Dolphins

We went out on the Mekong looking for the dolphins. You can read about our adventure here

Kratie at night

There is very little happening in Kratie at night with everything closed by 9pm. The fountain only works on occasional nights and people turn up to sit and watch.
