Second Day in Kampong Cham
One of the best things about cycling is you see things that you would not normally see.
The three sights listed below were found just cycling and all are incredible in their own way.
Colonial Era Watchtower
This Colonial Rra Watchtower is on the outskirts of Kampong Cham. It was built in the early 1900s. There are no gates or doors you just walk in. So it is open 24 hours a day. The steps are very step, rusty and some of the bolts are missing. The bricks are cracked as one photo shows. It didn’t feel safe. But the view from the top is magnificent
Wat Dey Dos
A very large peaceful pagoda near the centre of Kampong Cham. It contains a quite magnificent Buddha which must be at least 12m high. There is also a seated Buddha who looks a little emancipated. The large number of funerary stupas indicate the importance of this pagoda. Some of these stupas were extremely grand
Masjid Jamek Negeri
The Cham people which Kampong Cham is named for are Moslem. So it is no surprise that there are some pretty impressive Mosques in this area. The Cham people were originally from Vietnam and have suffered a considerable amount of persecution. This mosque is impressive and like all mosques I have been to they are very welcoming.
Waterfront at Night
A nightime the waterfront is full of bright lights. The Kizuna Bridge is especially spectacular.
