We went to see the Orangutans. We were told we are unlikely to see them as it there was lots of food in the forest. So we were pleased to see 5 different Orangutans. A guide said that was very rare.
These Orangutans are semi-wild. They have been rescued from captivity and are then returned to the wild. The forest can not support the numbers so they are fed. They are free to roam and do not have to get the food. They have no contact with humans and no one is allowed to handle them. A pretty impressive conservation effort.
We ended up seeing 5 different animals. This was much more impressive than I expected and they took their conservation role very seriously
